of the United Methodist Church
United Methodist delegates from all over the world will meet when this conference convenes April 24 - May 4 in Tampa, Florida. The General Conference is the legislative body of clergy and laity that meets every four years to discern God's will for our denomination, set priorities, establish budgets for general agencies, and affirm or change policies related to social and other issues.
You will be hearing about the General Conference in national and local media outlets, but we urge you to get the most detailed and accurate information through our United Methodist Communication agency. Secular media have a tendency to play up the more sensational stories and to miss the way our traditions and faith contribute to the process of decision making. Only UM sources will provide you the full text of documents being considered for vote.
The official web page for accurate General Conference information is: www.gc2012.umc.org. From there, you can find information on how the legislative process works, what changes are being considered, a conference agenda, and even a mobile app to track up to them minute news.
